The Heights-Hill Clinic and Wellness & Recovery
Center, located in downtown Brooklyn, is an outpatient program
of South Beach Psychiatric Center. A broad range of
high quality psychiatric services specifically designed to
meet the needs of individuals with a major mental illness
are provided.
Some of the services include psychiatric and psychological assessment; medication
monitoring and counseling; individual, family, and group psychotherapy; multi-family
psycho educational groups; and rehabilitation counseling.
Our staff consists of multi-cultural, licensed mental health professionals, including
psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, community mental health nurses,
and rehabilitation counselors.
A strong consumer network encourages clients’ active participation in their
treatment and recovery. We support Self-Help groups and activities, which contribute
significantly to the vitality of our therapeutic community.
The LGBT Affirmative Program is a component of Heights-Hill’s multicultural
services and is independent from Rainbow Heights Club. It is designed for lesbian,
gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals with major mental illness. Treatment
is directed by a team of licensed professionals sensitive to the concerns of
this varied clientele. Interventions are geared to help address the stigma
associated with homosexuality, transgender identity, and mental illness, and
to foster a deeper sense of heritage and community. Individual,
group, psycho educational, and socialization components are utilized.
The Heights-Hill Clinic and Wellness & Recovery Center believes that effective
treatment must go beyond traditional psychotherapy approaches by providing services
that are relevant to a culturally diverse population. The LGBT Program
is a unique and essential service that can help lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
individuals with major mental illness bridge the social and cultural gap that
they commonly experience in the traditional mental health care setting.
Rainbow Heights Club, which is separate and independent from Heights Hill’s
LGBT Affirmative Program, is an important part of the continuum of LGBT services
it offers. Rainbow Heights functions as a support and advocacy program that provides
a full range of adjunctive services.
